EMPS 75 -- Peaceful places

Today's Ellipsis Monday Photo Shoot is about peaceful places, and one of the most peaceful I've ever come upon is the Mt. Angel Abbey in Mt. Angel, Oregon. It is on top of a rounded hill that sticks out in the valley, which is flat all around it. There may be a fault line under it, as the 1993 earthquake was centered there. No damage was done to the Abbey at that time, though. I loved the place so much that one day I talked for a while to a monk, and I tried writing a book called "Sanctuary" that was set there, sometime in the future, but it didn't turn out very well. Still, Mt. Angel has been a place where I could stop and reflect and look at the valley below and all around it.

Hi Suzanne :)

It is a beautiful place, and from your description I can almost feel like I am there. Peaceful and quiet. Lovely.

Very nice...the sunlight indicates the peacefulness of those magnical times of day when the sun is low. That alone can create a quiet peaceful mood. The gentle sounds in and around an abbey can create a beauty beyond words. I am not Buddhist, but, I have found in my travels to Japan and Korea that being near a mountain Buddhist temple is another one of those places of peacefulness. The chanting of the monks is an over whelming mood change for me...beautiful.
